Auckland office bake-off

There is no denying that incentive goes a long way in inspiring action and yesterday’s turn out for the office bake-off was testament to this.  Aspiring bakers here in the Fisher & Paykel product development office rolled up their sleeves, donned their aprons and dusted off their cake tins in an effort to win tickets to Taste of Auckland, ‘a celebration of the best cuisine Auckland and the surrounding region has to offer’.

The judging proved difficult as entries ranked highly in both taste and presentation.  The Our Kitchen team sampled scones, muffins, slices, cakes, tarts and cheesecake and lamented the fact that we were unable to reward everyone’s efforts.  So it was after much deliberation that the winners were announced.  Baileys-soaked and liquorice spotted truffles took out the first prize, closely followed by pizza inspired scones (which incidentally were the only savoury entry in the competition) and luscious-lemon slice.  Highly commended awards went to the kiwifruit covered cheesecake, flower-topped chocolate cupcakes and the aptly named triple-bypass treat!

It was so great to see so many people getting involved and having so much fun in the process.  Even those in the office who didn’t bake were lucky enough to get to sample the hard work of those that did and I must admit that already I am looking forward to round two!

Next it is the blog team’s turn to get into the kitchen and start cooking for the Taste of Auckland event.  So get online, buy your ticket and come down and see us next week!
